St. Paul, MN

Client: St. Paul Park and Recs;
Minnesota China Friendship Garden Society
Hmong Plaza Designer / Artist: Kao Lee Thao

Contractor: Urban Companies, LLC.

Ping’s scope is the landscape design, grading and planting design around the hardscape plaza

Landscape design around the Hmong Plaza to seamlessly integrate it within the broader context of the Chinese Garden at Phalen Regional Park.

The design principle of "hide and reveal" was employed to establish visual separations among the existing gateway, the pavilion, and the new Hmong Plaza, utilizing planting and topographic strategies.

Renderings depicting the landscape showcase a layered effect between spaces, with careful selection of planting species imbued with cultural significance to foster a sense of familiarity within the newly designed area.
